Brazil has a chance to hold all three women’s championships in the UFC for the first time in history. The possibility depends on Natalia Silva and Amanda Nunes winning their upcoming title fights.

Silva will fight Wang Cong for the vacant flyweight title this Saturday in Salt Lake City. Nunes faces champion Kayla Harrison for the bantamweight belt on November 14 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Mackenzie Dern already holds a UFC women’s title for Brazil. If Silva and Nunes win their fights, Brazil would control all three women’s championships.

“Three Brazilian champions at the same time would be a milestone in history,” Silva told MMA Fighting. “It would be a historic moment for women’s and Brazilian MMA.”

Silva’s Path to the Title Shot

Silva has won eight straight fights in the UFC. Her last three victories came against former champions Jessica Andrade, Alexa Grasso, and Rose Namajunas.

The flyweight title became vacant after Valentina Shevchenko gave it up to treat an injury. Silva was originally scheduled to fight Shevchenko before the champion pulled out.

Wang earned her title shot with four straight wins in the UFC. Her most recent victory was a decision against Tracy Cortez.

“I’m going to do my part Saturday,” Silva said. “I’ve dedicated myself a lot to this, trained really hard, spent a month living in Mexico, training in Mexico because of the altitude.”

Silva said she gave up many things to focus on this fight. She lived and trained in Mexico for a month to prepare for the altitude in Salt Lake City.

Already a Champion in Her Mind

Silva grew up in Minas Gerais, Brazil. She said she has always seen herself as a champion, even when others doubted her.

“From the very beginning, I always saw myself as a champion,” Silva said. “But I speak so softly that sometimes people say, ‘I don’t know about this girl.'”

Silva does not feel her title would be less valuable because she is not fighting Shevchenko. She believes the winner Saturday will be the true champion.

“Whether it’s by beating Valentina or not, if I win the title, I’m the undisputed champion,” Silva said. “The title wasn’t handed to me, so I’m the undisputed champion, as far as I’m concerned.”

Silva said Wang is just as good as Shevchenko. She prepared for the toughest fight of her career no matter who stood across from her.

It remains unclear when Shevchenko will return to the octagon. The former champion has not announced whether she will return at flyweight or move to bantamweight.

Silva said she is ready to fight Shevchenko later if the former champion wants. But first, she plans to win the title Saturday.

Nunes will try to win back the bantamweight title she once held. She lost the belt to Harrison and will attempt to reclaim it at UFC 334 in November.
