Ranked fight removed from UFC 275 fight card

Jake NicholsBy Jake NicholsJune 11, 2022No Comments2 Mins Read

An important clash between two ranked fighters has been scrapped just hours away from the start of the UFC 275 fight card in Singapore.

MMA journalist Marcel Dorff first reported that Rogerio Bontorin (#8 flyweight) was “transported to hospital” following what seemed to be complications with his weight cut.

Just got told Rogerio Bontorin was transported to the hospital earlier this morning. With Bontorin vs. Kape missing on the PPV card visual during the Road to UFC broadcast it looks like the fight is off #UFC275 tomorrow….

MMA Fighting later confirmed that Bontorin had suffered “kidney issues from cutting weight and is currently hospitalized.” MMA Fighting’s report also included notes from Bontorin’s coach, Gile Ribeiro.

“He was in the process of cutting weight and felt a lot of pain in the lumbar area when he was 2kg [4.5 pounds] over, then he left the bathtub and it only got worse. We called Marcus, from the UFC staff, to check on him and we needed an ambulance to go to the hospital. We ran some tests and he had renal insufficiency, so he’ll stay in the hospital until tomorrow,” Gile Ribeiro told Guilherme Cruz.

The UFC later released a statement revealing that the scheduled flyweight bout between Bontorin and Manel Kape has been canceled from the event.

The news has shaken up the UFC 275 fight card and a new bout order has been revealed.
