Tyron Woodley’s hard fall from the top of the UFC welterweight division

Ant WalkerBy Ant WalkerSeptember 22, 2020No Comments2 Mins Read

Tyron Woodley was dominated by Colby Covington and has now officially lost 14 consecutive rounds in his last three fights and was on his way to losing a 15th before the fifth-round stoppage.

Where does Woodley go from here?

Matthew Wells says it’s hard to know because he hasn’t looked competitive at all in recent fights. Wells states that it looked as though Woodley was “scared” to let his hands go and it makes him question whether Woodley’s heart is really in this anymore. Is he tired of the UFC? Is he tired of the sport? Or is he just no match for the likes of Usman, Covington, and Burns who all defeated him with ease?

Ant Walker raises the point that even the much lower-ranked fighters such as Neil Magny (#11) and Vicente Luque (#10) would appear to be significant challenges for Woodley at this point of his career. Geoff Neal (#12), too, could cause problems for Woodley.

Everyone is talking about retirement and Walker and Wells find it hard to argue with that idea.

But to play fantasy matchmaking, the pair line up some fights for Woodley that make some sense after his recent string of defeats.

Wells calls for Woodley to make the move to Bellator and fight Benson Henderson.

Walker says a clash with the supposedly returning Nick Diaz would interest him. And if Woodley was to leave the UFC, then a fight with Paul Daley in Bellator would be fantastic.

Do you think Tyron Woodley is finished? Who would you like to see him fight next? Let us know in the comments below.
