Daniel Cormier to update fighter rankings on UFC 4 video game after each pay-per-view

Daniel Cormier will not only be on commentary in the new UFC 4 video game — he will also have a hand at regularly updating the ratings of each fighter.

UFC 4 is set to release August 14 and leading up to its release, EA Sports has been unveiling its top 50 ranked fighters on the roster.

Unlike previous games, instead of an overall number rating out of 100 for each criteria, UFC 4 will use a star system. And unlike previous games, they will be regularly updated each month based on a fighter’s results and performances.

And the rating adjustments will be suggested by none other than former heavyweight champion Cormier, who announced the news in a recent video for the EA Sports UFC YouTube channel.

“What you don’t know — the big secret — is that I have been given the privilege of being the ratings adjustor for the game this year,” Cormier said. “We are bringing the next level of authenticity and sports integration so that UFC 4 can resemble exactly what’s going on in the real-life Octagon.

“… My job is at select pay-per-views, I’m going to work with the people at EA Sports and give them feedback on which fighters should go up and which fighters should go down based on their performances inside of the Octagon. Now that means fighters’ rankings can go up and down from month to month throughout the year, so if you’re in the Octagon in the next couple of months, realize that your results will affect your in-game character so you better put it down.”

Of course, there is a way to get favorable ratings from “DC” as well.

“It’s time to start making friends with ol’ DC,” Cormier added. “I mean, the easiest way to my heart is through my stomach. I’m an easy man so if you want those ratings to fly up, you better get with your boy.”

It will be interesting to see how Cormier’s rating changes following his heavyweight trilogy fight with Stipe Miocic at UFC 252 which takes place August 15 — a day after UFC 4’s official release.
