Terence Crawford, Errol Spence spar on Twitter over potential unification fight

Terence Crawford poses on the scale during his official weigh-in at MGM Grand Garden Arena

Who is the undisputed best welterweight in boxing? There is one way of finding out and that’s having WBO champion Terence Crawford fight WBC and IBF titleholder Errol Spence Jr.

Ever since Crawford moved up and became WBO welterweight champion in the summer of 2018, fans have been craving for a title unification fight with Spence. The problem, as is usually the case in boxing, is getting the fight made.

Crawford is with Top Rank and ESPN. Spence is with PBC on Fox. Therefore, there’s already an obstacle in getting all parties to agree to a deal, especially when it comes to revenue share and TV distribution.

But Crawford doesn’t see it that way. He feels if Spence really wanted the fight, he’d have asked for it by now and told PBC to make it happen.

So what’s been the hold up homie? When I came to the division y’all all said I had to get a title first. Now you changed yo mind and talking about wrong side of the street. So I’m just here for another excuse what’s up.

    — Terence Crawford (@terencecrawford) January 6, 2020

Keep defending him because I’m tell all y’all now and I mean what I say when that day come when I knock him all I want all y’all to keep that same energy because he gone cry in the car he wasn’t built for this shit I got over here just watch me show the world

    — Terence Crawford (@terencecrawford) January 6, 2020

And stop using the fucking promoters, managers and advisors for that weak ass excuse y’all doing they work for us y’all dumb mf if you really want a fight you tell them i don’t give two fucks that’s who I want to fight. let yo nuts drop you say you yo own boss @ErrolSpenceJr

    — Terence Crawford (@terencecrawford) January 6, 2020

Spence had a response of his own.

What you mean I told you to yo face what it was. Like I said you the one running behind this wrong side of the street BS you could of been said let’s fight but you been ducking reck. Heal up like I said when u come back I’ll get on yo head when you ready.

    — Terence Crawford (@terencecrawford) January 6, 2020

You right ima call you right now pick yo phone up.

In the end, they both agreed that a title unification fight would happen in the future.

@ErrolSpenceJr is a cool dude on some real shit we both agree the fight will happen.

    — Terence Crawford (@terencecrawford) January 6, 2020

It’s clear that both fighters want the fight. The boxing world wants the fight as well. And it would certainly be a shame if fans didn’t get to see two of the best pound-for-pound and undefeated boxers collide in their prime.

Hopefully, ESPN and PBC can work together in making a potential title unification bout come to fruition in 2020.
