PFL 4 Weigh In Results: Roberta Samad, Zane Kamaka miss weight

Shane ConnellyBy Shane ConnellyJuly 10, 2019No Comments3 Mins Read

Two fighters missed weight for Professional Fighters League’s fourth event of 2019, which takes place on Thursday, July 11.

On the live ceremonial weigh-ins, former PFL champion and current commentator Sean O’Connell revealed that women’s lightweight fighter Roberta Samad and men’s welterweight fighter Zane Kamaka failed to make weight for their scheduled bouts against Sarah Kaufman and Andre Fialho, respectively.

Their opponents, Kaufman and Fialho, will both be given three points – the standard total for a decision victory – in the tournament for making weight. They will also be paid their show money and win money.

For the UFC veteran Kaufman, the three points bring her total up to nine. She earned six points at PFL 1 by defeating Morgan Frier by arm-triangle choke in the first round of their fight.

Those nine points are good enough to secure her a spot in the women’s lightweight playoff bracket. She is the first to do so in the division’s inaugural season.

Samad won her first bout of the season by unanimous decision over Moriel Charneski to earn three points, but she lost her chance to secure a playoff spot with the weight miss. Fellow week-one winners Kayla Harrison and Bobbi Jo Dalziel will have the opportunity to break into the postseason with a win tomorrow.

In the men’s welterweight division, Fialho earned his first points of the season after Kamaka failed to make weight. Fialho has not yet secured a playoff spot in the welterweight portion of the tournament, having lost to Chris Curtis in his first fight of the season by third-round TKO.

Fialho’s scheduled opponent Kamaka is also winless on the season. Kamaka fought last season’s runner-up Ray Cooper III in a grudge match between two cousins.

Prior to Wednesday’s weight miss, Kamaka missed weight for the first time in the PFL ahead of his promotional debut against his cousin, Ray Cooper III. He stayed on the card after Cooper accepted a catchweight bout. Cooper than submitted Kamaka in the second round of their grudge match.

According to O’Connell, Kamaka is “disqualified from PFL competition” after missing weight for the second time in two fights.
