Brett Johns announces knee injury; upcoming MRI

Brett Johns punches Pedro Munhoz in the third round in the bantamweight bout during UFC 227

Talented UFC bantamweight, Brett Johns, has suffered a knee injury.

Johns released a statement on Instagram detailing that he has suffered a ‘knee injury’ in training last week.

As such, the Swansea, Wales, native will be undergoing an MRI to evaluate the extent of any potential damage. In Johns’ photo, the bantamweight is wearing a large brace on his left knee.

Johns, 26, signed to the UFC in 2016. Prior to joining the promotion, Johns maintained an undefeated record as both an amateur and a professional to the tune of a 16-fight winning streak, with 4 wins as an amateur and 12 as a professional.

Johns fought primarily for Cage Warriors and Titan FC, two promotions renowned for their abilities to get fighters to the UFC.

Upon signing to the UFC, Johns has gone 3-2. The Welshman picked up wins over Kwan Ho Kwak, Albert Morales, and Joe Soto. His calf slicer victory against Soto was an eventual candidate for Submission of the Year in 2017.

However, Johns has struggled of late, dropping unanimous decisions to both Aljamain Sterling and Pedro Munhoz, respectively, in his bid for ranked status.
