Blaydes vs. Lewis canceled after another positive COVID-19 test impacts UFC 1

COVID-19 has struck again. This weekend’s UFC Fight Night main event, Curtis Blaydes vs. Derrick Lewis, has now been canceled after Blaydes tested positive for the coronavirus.

Blaydes vs. Lewis was shaping up to be a heavyweight battle with serious implications for the division with Blaydes (#3) and Lewis (#5) both looking for an opportunity to climb the rankings and earn a title shot.

Here’s how The Body Lock’s Patrick Auger and Matthew Wells reacted to the news.

Is it time for the UFC to implement a full-time bubble in the US as Auger suggested?

As Wells explains, the NBA ran a full season without a positive test. It’s time for the UFC to consider all options if they want to keep its events intact.

In any case, a return to Fight Island is likely to happen in January, where the UFC was successful at managing COVID-19.
