UFC 246 is a PPV event and that means that fans in the United States can watch all of the fights live by ordering the event via ESPN+.

Pettis (22-9) enters this fight as a betting underdog following his defeat to Nate Diaz in August 2019. Pettis had previously scored a big win against Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson in March last year, suggesting that he might experience a career resurgence at welterweight. However, he has now dropped back to lightweight for this fight at UFC 246.

Ferreira (16-2) has won all of his last five fights in the UFC and is now undefeated since losing to Dustin Poirier in April 2015. Consecutive wins against Kyle Nelson, Rustam Khabilov, and Mairbek Taisumov have earned Ferreira a main card fight against Pettis at UFC 246.

Anthony Pettis vs. Carlos Diego Ferreira play-by-play

Round one

Ferreira is immediately advancing toward Pettis. He’s clearly looking for the takedown and attempts to catch a kick from Pettis. Pettis hoping to land clean with punches down the middle as Ferreira moves forward. Pettis lands a solid hook.

Ferreira connects with strikes of his own and Pettis returns fire after taking a high kick from Ferreira. Ferreira still walking Pettis down.

Pettis now with his back to the cage and attempting to strike but Ferreira closes the distance and enters the clinch. Ferreira grabs Pettis’ back while standing and then secures the position on the ground as they fall.

Pettis scrambles and escapes but it doesn’t take long for Ferreira to take the back again. He then ends up in side control and Ferreira ends up on top. A strong round from Ferreira with dominant grappling helping him to what appeared to be a 10-9.

Round two

Pettis attempts a kick to the body but Ferreira grabs the leg and pursues a takedown. Pettis goes down to the turtle position before rolling to his back. Ferreira has two hooks in now. He’s striking with his left hand and Pettis scrambles. Ferreira is still on top, though, and now flattens Pettis out momentarily but Pettis escapes to turtle. Ferreira is striking Pettis but nothing significant is landing. He slides an arm under the chin and taps Pettis in round two.
