Holtzman, 35, made his UFC debut in 2015. He alternated wins and losses to begin his promotional tenure, submitting Tony Christodoulou and outpointing Cody Pfister while dropping decisions to Drew Dober and Josh Emmett, respectively, in the process.
After the Emmett loss, Holtzman went on a nice three-fight winning streak, scoring decision victories over Michael McBride and Darrell Horcher, along with finishing Alan Patrick with ground-and-pound elbows from the mount.
Dong Hyun Ma, 30, is the fighter formerly known as Dong Hyun Kim. Ma began to go by his new name in an effort to distinguish himself from another Dong Hyun Kim, a UFC welterweight.
Ma, like Holtzman, has won three of his last four. Following a win over Brendan O’Reilly in 2016, Ma scored a TKO victory over aging Japanese legend Takanori Gomi in 2017.
A year later, Ma won a back-and-forth split-decision over now-RIZIN contender Damien Brown. At UFC 234, Ma’s winning streak was snapped in brutal fashion, as the South Korean found himself on the wrong end of a brutal knockout at the hands of Devonte Smith.
Ma is well-known for being in exciting fights. In addition to his UFC wins, Ma was also one half of an all-time classic, the “Fight of the Night” winning slugfest between him and Marco Polo Reyes, which took place at UFC 199.
Now, Scott Holtzman and Dong Hyun Ma will meet in Shenzhen, China, as both fighters look to return to their usual, winning ways.
