Ray Borg reacts to his victory over Louis Smolka

Conor McGregor’s latest antics have significantly impacted UFC 223.

McGregor and his team stormed the Barclays Center and threw items at a bus that contained multiple UFC athletes who were scheduled to compete this weekend. As a result of a shattered glass window, two fighters were injured and three of the scheduled fights at UFC 223 have been canceled.

UFC 223 changes

Michael Chiesa, who was scheduled to fight Anthony Pettis in an important lightweight clash, has been removed from the card. Chiesa suffered “several facial cuts” and was “deemed unfit to fight by the New York State Athletic Commission and the UFC medical team.”

Chiesa released a statement on Twitter, detailing that “a decision was made by the New York State Athletic Commission to pull me from UFC 223. I’m devastated to say the least.” Chiesa then asked for Anthony Pettis to “run this match up ASAP” and suggested that June 9 would be an appropriate date.

Ray Borg has also been pulled from UFC 223 after experiencing “multiple corneal abrasions.” Borg’s flyweight contest with Brandon Moreno will no longer go ahead.

Artem Lobov, who was involved in the incident, has been removed from the card. As such, his scheduled fight with Alex Caceres will not go ahead.

The UFC has reshuffled the order of the remaining ten bouts. Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Kyle Bochniak will now be featured on the main card.
