Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar are set to battle for the UFC Featherweight Championship at UFC 240 on Saturday, July 27, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
UFC 251: Usman vs. Masvidal is this weekend!
Three title fights are scheduled for UFC Fight Island on Saturday, July 11. Order the PPV now on ESPN+.
Scheduled as the main event of the evening, Holloway attempt to defend his featherweight title for the third time. The 27-year-old captured the title from Jose Aldo at UFC 212 in 2017 and has since recorded successful defenses against Aldo (UFC 218) and Brian Ortega (UFC 231).
Although Holloway’s 13-fight winning streak came to an end in his recent UFC Interim Lightweight Championship bout against Dustin Poirier, his track record of success at featherweight lives on. The Hawaiian’s last defeat at 145-pounds was at the hands of Conor McGregor in 2013.
Against him at UFC 240 is former UFC lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar. Edgar and Holloway had been scheduled to fight on multiple occasions already but injuries kept the title fight from eventuating. This time, however, both fighters have hit the scales and will proceed to fight night.
In somewhat of a rare occurrence in 2019, Holloway vs. Edgar will feature as the lone championship bout of the evening. Of the last five UFC pay-per-view events, UFC 237 was the only fight card that didn’t host multiple title fights.
Also on the card, former UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg will return to action against Felicia Spencer. Cyborg will re-enter the cage for the first time since losing her title to Amanda Nunes in December. She’ll have the opportunity to bounce back against Spencer, who is undefeated after seven professional fights.
