Frankie Edgar picks up an important win in Atlantic City

Frankie Edgar at UFC Fight Night 128

Defying many critics with his quick turnaround, Frankie “The Answer” Edgar bounced back in a major way by defeating Cub Swanson by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 128.

In front of an electric crowd in Atlantic City, just about an hour from Edgar’s hometown of Toms River, “The Answer” put on an impressive performance.

It was a close first round, with both men winning exchanges and landing their respective shots. The second and third rounds, though, were a different story. It was all Frankie, putting constant and consistent pressure on Swanson.

While Cub stuffed some solid takedown attempts from Frankie early on, it seemed Edgar didn’t mind at all to keep it standing. It looked like Frankie wanted to prove to the naysayers that he’s not weak on the stand-up part of his game like they were saying after his last fight.

Following the win, a happy Frankie Edgar couldn’t help but shout out the home state he grew up in.

“Jersey, I love you baby. I love you” Edgar said. “My kids are here, first fight they’ve seen.. this is a dream come true.”

In a perfect scenario for Edgar, he was able to bounce back from the worst loss of his career, in front of his family and friends, and in his home state, in dominant fashion.

When asked about who he wants next in his post-fight interview, Edgar said that he wants the winner of Holloway vs. Ortega, which is slated for July 7.

Frankie acknowledged he risked it by taking the fight with Ortega, but a quick turnaround and a win over a top-five ranked Cub Swanson should be enough to get Edgar the next crack at the 145-pound strap.

Edgar has stressed the importance of persistence and perseverance, and he showed the results of that. Frankie looks to be better than ever and hasn’t appeared to have lost a step. Frankie is determined to get that title shot back, and like his manager, Ali Abdelaziz said, “now we have a dangerous Frankie Edgar.”
