Amanda Nunes withdraws from UFC 256 bout with Megan Anderson 1

Amanda Nunes has withdrawn from her bout with UFC 256 main event bout with Megan Anderson for undisclosed reasons. Brett Okamoto of ESPN reported the story on November 10.

Patrick Auger and Matthew Wells share their initial reaction to the news.

Auger says that the matchup didn’t really excite him anyway. He felt like it was more a story of Nunes needing an opponent and Anderson was one of the few challengers remaining.

Wells was treating this fight similar to the Felicia Spencer one for Nunes. He feels like Anderson is better than Spencer, but still expected it to go a similar way.

With Nunes vs. Anderson now off UFC 256, it has enabled Petr Yan vs. Aljamain Sterling to potentially slide into the main event slot.

Auger and Wells agree that this is the more competitive fight but share differing opinions on whether it’ll be a more successful main event for the UFC in terms of PPV buys.
