UFC 257 date and start time

UFC 257 takes place this Saturday, January 23, at “Fight Island,” on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The fights will commence in the early hours of the morning in Abu Dhabi so that the event can be broadcasted at the usual prime time slot of Saturday night in the United States.

The preliminary card starts at 6:30 pm (ET) and will feature seven fights before the PPV main card gets started at 10:00 pm (ET). The main event bout featuring Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will start a little after midnight.

Conor McGregor’s next fight

Conor McGregor’s next fight is sure to be an exciting one. The Irishman is set to face established lightweight contender Dustin Poirier in a long-awaited rematch.

McGregor and Poirier first battled back at UFC 178 in 2014 and it took McGregor less than two minutes to defeat Poirier in that featherweight bout. But this time, many fans are expecting a different outcome.

After being defeated by McGregor, Poirier made the move up to the lightweight division where he has competed 13 times in almost six years. “The Diamond” has enjoyed a successful career at 155-pounds, claiming the UFC Interim Lightweight Championship in 2019 and recording ten wins and just two defeats (and one no-contest) throughout his time in the tough division.

Poirier has looked more durable at the higher weight class and the category has certainly helped him fill out his larger frame. With wins against Max Holloway, Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, and Dan Hooker, Poirier has done all but win the UFC Lightweight Championship, as he was denied by Khabib Nurmagomedov, like many others before him.

McGregor will be returning to the cage for the first time since he stopped Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in just 40 seconds in January last year. That win was McGregor’s first in the UFC in just over four years, but he is still yet to record a win in the lightweight division since defeating Alvarez in 2016.

The feeling around this main event matchup is that the winner will go on to compete for the UFC Lightweight Championship next.
