Christian Lee is set to take on Kotetsu Boku in an important featherweight contest at ONE: Warriors of the World in Bangkok on December 9.
Lee (7-1), who trains out of Evolve MMA in Singapore, is regarded as one of the organization’s best up-and-coming talents. At the age of 19, Lee is one of the busiest martial artists in ONE Championship and has competed eight times since beginning his career in December 2015.
After experiencing a defeat at the hands of Martin Nguyen at ONE: Heroes of the World last year, Lee bounced back with consecutive victories over Jianping Wan and Keanu Subba. His third-round submission victory over Subba marked the first time that Lee was victorious in a way other than a first-round stoppage.
Lee will find himself in an intriguing battle with former ONE Lightweight World Champion Kotetsu Boku (26-11-2).
Boku, who is also riding a two-win streak, recently picked up wins over Eric Kelly and Timofey Nastyukhin to put himself right in contention for another shot at the ONE Featherweight World Championship.
Martin Nguyen, ONE Championship’s two-division champion, has previously stated that he believed Boku was next in line for a shot at the title. For now, however, Lee and Boku will test their skills against each other in what seems to be an unofficial title eliminator.
This contest makes it all the more interesting for Martin Nguyen, who will now be looking to defend his ONE Featherweight World Championship against the winner of Lee vs. Boku and his ONE Lightweight World Championship against the winner of Shannon Wiratchai vs. Rasul Yakhyaev.
Of course, each of these winners will need to wait to see what happens after Nguyen challenges Bibiano Fernandes for the ONE Bantamweight World Championship early next year.
The ONE Strawweight World Championship bout between Yoshitaka Naito and Alex Silva will headline ONE: Warriors of the World.
