Arnaud Lepont returned to the ONE Championship cage in style by submitting Richard Corminal in the first round at ONE: Immortal Pursuit in Singapore.
Lepont secured an early takedown and immediately transitioned into side control. From there, the skill difference was quickly apparent as the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt applied heavy top pressure and waited for his opponent to waste energy.[srizonfbvidsingle id=1628280780528504]
Corminal tried to create separation by generating momentum with his legs. He wasn’t able to shake Lepont from top position and because he was using his legs offensively, rather than blocking a potential transition from Lepont, the Frenchman easily slid into full mount after securing head and arm control.
From there, Lepont simply skidded over to the far side and locked in the arm-triangle choke. For a while, it looked as though Corminal would be able to survive the position. However, after a couple of quick adjustments, Lepont was eventually able to submit his opponent.
The submission victory was a spectacular way for Arnaud Lepont to return to the ONE Championship cage after being away for two years. The last time he competed was at ONE: Odyssey of Champions, where he lost to Vincent Latoel in the second round.
After the contest, Lepont took to the microphone to say:
“I’ve had two years away from the cage. I missed you Singapore. It’s such a pleasure to be here in Singapore fighting because you understand what is going on inside the cage.”
When Mitch Chilson asked Lepont what is next, the Frenchman pointed to Chatri Sityodtong and said: “It’s up to you guys [ONE Championship]”.
