Getting things started at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines, Adrian Matheis (4-3) and Eddey Kalai (0-3) met in the middle of the ONE Championship cage and gave everything from the very first seconds.
Both fighters attempted to connect with strikes early in the contest but it was Kalai who landed the most significant strike of the fight when he landed flush with a forceful left hook.
After a frenetic scramble, it was Kalai who ended up in top position. However, despite having the advantageous position, he would never be able to control his opponent. In fact, even when it looked like Kalai had secured full mount, Matheis exploded upwards and got back to his feet relatively easily. On another occasion, Kalai attempted a rear-naked choke but had no control of his opponent’s body and Matheis quickly escaped the position.
When the two fighters were asked to return to their feet, Kalai turned his back and a lightning-fast Matheis quickly secured control of his opponent before finishing the fight with a tight rear-naked choke.
The contest was stopped 4:15 into the first round.
